Michael Sarbanes

Ms. Edna Manns-Lake sits down with Michael Sarbanes to discuss his experiences working with Fayette Street Outreach, the Comprehensive Communities Program, and the Hot Spots Program, among others, in Baltimore in the 1990s. The conversation covers the history of their collaboration, the strategies they employed to address community issues like drug dealing and vacant housing, and the impact and challenges of their work. Michael was a lawyer who worked with the Community Law Center in the 1990s. He later became the director of the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention, the Executive Director of Engagement at Baltimore City Public Schools, and the Executive Director of Citizens Planning and Housing Association (CPHA). He was recently named the inaugural Executive Director of the George and Betsy Sherman Center at University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
