Thelma “Mama T” Terrell

In this conversation, Ms. Edna Manns Lake catches up with longtime resident, Thelma Terrell, who has lived in Southwest Baltimore since she was 5 years old. Ms. Terrell, or Mama T, as she’s known, provides a detailed historical account of the changes she has witnessed in her community over the decades, including the impact of segregation, redlining, urban renewal, and the decline of minority-owned businesses and community resources. She contrasts her positive childhood experiences of a close-knit, diverse neighborhood with the challenges and negative trends she has observed over time.
